So, rest assured, you are in great hands with Dr. Rafetto.
What can you treat with cosmetic dentistry?
True cosmetic procedures are “elective.” They are designed to improve the aesthetics or appearance of the smile and face. Dr. Rafetto can confirm if the imperfections are truly cosmetic in nature, or if they are caused by an underlying health condition that requires restorative treatment instead. For the teeth, imperfections that are “treatable” may range from dark or stubborn stains and discoloration, to chips, small cracks, minor spacing issues, and irregularities in size and shape. For the gums, imperfections include a smile that is overly “gummy” or may appear “toothy.” Since a “toothy” smile can be due to progressive gum disease caused by the gums pulling away from the teeth, it is important for Dr. Rafetto to evaluate your smile and then make appropriate recommendations from there.
How can you make my teeth look better?
If you have yellow teeth and stains, professional whitening can work wonders to safely, noticeably, and quickly make a difference in the color of your teeth. For those with very stubborn intrinsic discoloration, such as that caused by excessive antibiotics use in childhood, dental bonding or porcelain veneers may be used to cover up the discolored teeth. Bonding and veneers may also be appropriate to disguise and reshape chipped, overly pointy, worn down “short” teeth, gaps and other minor spacing issues.
What if my gumline is the problem?
There are also a wide range of cosmetic and therapeutic gum procedures. For gums that are otherwise healthy, we can fashion a more balanced gumline. Special instruments and contouring techniques may be applied to make a “gummy” or “toothy” smile look less so. These soft tissues play such an important role in the appearance and health of your smile, by both supporting and “framing” the teeth.
How do you use Botox® or fillers?
Dr. Rafetto loves to use injectable products to improve the aesthetics of your face and smile. Botox® and dermal filler are great at correcting facial imbalances, smile proportions and other signs of aging, including loss of volume and wrinkles. Appropriately trained and equipped dental offices like ours can also use injectable neurotoxins for muscle pain and hyper-activity associated with various occlusal conditions. Botox® can help reduce the functional effects of bruxism (chronic teeth grinding) and many Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMJDs). This can include hypertrophy of the muscles used for chewing (i.e., the masseter). When the jaw muscles are chronically engaged in teeth grinding and clenching, the extensive and persistent forces can cause them to enlarge and alter the shape and balance of the face. We work to reduce a bulky jawline and restore attractive proportions by precisely relaxing the muscles that have become overactive. Dr. Rafetto has completed many hours of advanced training with the American Association of Facial Aesthetics to be able to provide these amazing products for her patients.
