Don’t despair or repair!
Retrofit your dentures for a lifetime of healthy function
If your dentures no longer fit as they once did or tend to slip around for as long as you can remember, do not wait to contact Bright Dental – Brianna Rafetto D.M.D., P.A. for the very best in restorative dentistry and replacement teeth that feel and look natural, and “operate” as designed. Options at our Middletown, Delaware office include the fixed “hybrid” denture.
My denture used to fit. Why doesn’t it now?
The tissues in your mouth can shrink or change over time. As this process occurs, the seal between these tissues and the denture is no longer as tight. When that happens, you may notice changes in how your dentures feel and function. In fact, many common complaints associated with dentures are rooted in an ill fit. As the denture base shifts around due to no longer conforming well to the surrounding tissues, you may experience painful friction-related irritation and sores. A loose denture can make it very difficult to chew food. You may also struggle to pronounce words correctly because the denture may move around. This can also lead to embarrassing, awkward, and uncomfortable social situations.
How can you restore the fit of my denture?
With conventional dentures, we can help you regain a proper seal between the ridges in your mouth and the appliance. Denture “maintenance” services include relining and rebasing. However, there comes a time when the denture requires replacement. At this point, you may consider dental implant options. Additionally, you may desire a lower-maintenance solution. Dentures that are supported by implants may be just what you are looking for to restore your healthy, functional smile for good.
How do implants work with my denture?
Due to our considerable onsite capabilities, we may “retrofit” your existing denture with a minimal number of well-placed dental implants. This “hybrid” option is only recommended after Dr. Rafetto has carefully assessed the condition and shape of the denture, as well as the state and health of your mouth, among other factors. As appropriate, your denture can be fitted with specialized attachments. These attachments connect to implants positioned in the jaw. As few as four implants may be placed to support an upper or lower denture. Think of each implant as a tooth root; they hold the denture in place securely, just like natural roots hold natural teeth in place.
Do I need to make adjustments with hybrid dentures?
No relining, rebasing, or replacement is generally required. The bone in the jaw remains strong and healthy due to the stimulation it receives from the denture teeth anchored to it by precisely positioned implants. Since the loss of bone in the jaw is avoided, the shape of your face is retained. The tissues in your mouth do not degrade and change, and the denture can continue to conform, fit, and function well. Of course, that does not mean components, such as the attachments, are not vulnerable to wear and tear. Dr. Rafetto will carefully examine the condition of your new dentures during regular check-ups at our office in Middletown, DE. From there, she can recommend repairs and other interventions as needed.Do I need to make adjustments with hybrid dentures?
