FAQs about shiny, happy smiles with high-quality restorative dentistry

At Dr. Rafetto’s Bright Dental, we apply our attuned skills and onsite technologies to keep your teeth in tip-top shape. However, when injuries cannot be avoided and oral care alone does not suffice to treat a decayed or damaged tooth, our patients from across the Middletown, Delaware area have peace of mind. Our range of restorative dentistry services can rebuild a portion of a broken or traumatized tooth, or completely re-make an irreparably damaged tooth from scratch.

Can my tooth be preserved?

Here at Dr. Rafetto’s Bright Dental, we believe in saving and preserving natural teeth whenever possible. Dr. Rafetto will complete a comprehensive evaluation of the tooth or teeth in question and then will recommend the best treatment options specific for you. Generally, even very badly damaged teeth with deep decay or infection “pulp” (nerve) tissue can be “saved” with the likes of nonsurgical root canal therapies or other endodontic procedures. We believe everyone’s needs are unique and will work with you to determine the best treatment for you.

If my tooth is not “too far gone,” how do you treat it?

The specific treatments and types of dental restorations that are recommended by Dr. Rafetto depend on your unique needs and situation. For instance, dental fillings are an appropriate option for more minimal forms of decay. However, for larger cavities and more extensive decay, a dental crown and/or root canal treatment may be needed to ensure the long-term strength of the weakened tooth.

What if my tooth can’t be saved?

No worries! We are here to help and have many options to replace essential teeth. We say “essential teeth,” because some extracted teeth do not need to be replaced. These include “wisdom teeth” or third molars. They, like your appendix or tailbone, are vestigial structures – not necessary for healthy function. For teeth that are necessary to support healthy chewing, proper speech, and facial structure and bone density, it is important to replace them promptly with the likes of bridges and dentures, or crowns, bridges, and dentures that are supported by dental implants.

So, you offer implants?v

Yes! We work with some of the top specialists in Delaware to replace your missing teeth with implants. Once implants are precisely positioned in the jaw and have integrated with the surrounding bone, Dr. Rafetto will restore them with lovely dental crowns, bridges, or dentures. These prosthetic teeth are not going anywhere, because they are stabilized in the jaw by way of the implants! Plus, this approach helps to preserve the strength, health, and density of the bone in the jaw, thus avoiding the destructive process of bone resorption or bone loss.
